Installing Director's Prep on Windows

Why does Windows show a warning?

Windows shows a "Windows protected your PC" message for apps that aren't yet digitally signed by Microsoft. Director's Prep is safe — this is a standard hurdle for independent software. Here's how to get past it.

Step 1 — Run the installer

Open the downloaded file

Find Director.s.Prep.Setup.exe in your Downloads folder and double-click it.

Windows SmartScreen appears

You'll see a blue screen saying "Windows protected your PC". Don't click Close.

Click "More info"

Click the More info link in the top-left of the blue screen. Two buttons will appear at the bottom.

Click "Run anyway"

Click Run anyway and the installer will launch normally.

Is this safe? Yes. The warning appears because Director's Prep is made by an independent developer and hasn't yet gone through Microsoft's signing programme. The app itself is completely safe to install.

Step 2 — Complete the installation

Follow the installer

Choose your install location and click Install. The app will be added to your Start menu and desktop.

Launch Director's Prep

Open it from your desktop or Start menu. Your 14-day free trial begins on first launch.
